Match Report - 16 Apr 2011, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Aberbargoed Buds
Ammanford could have scored on five minutes when Dean Jenkins went clear but his attempted lob over the keeper who had come off his line went wide.
Jenkins’ effort was followed by a Richard Lewis strike that was deflected for a corner.
Disaster struck on 12 minutes when a terrible defensive mix-up left Ross Fowler in for a goal for the visitors.
Ammanford replied when a back pass to the keeper from the edge of the penalty area fell short and Richard Lewis made the most of the gift.
It was then down to keeper Gruff Harrison who was in for the suspended Stuart Lloyd who pulled off a fine save but the visitors grabbed another goal on 30 minutes with Fowler again scoring.
Ammanford were by far the better team in the second half and deservedly equalised through Luke Fayres but the hosts were pegged back to 2-3 when Fowler completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot – albeit against the run of play.
Ammanford hit the crossbar and had at least three shots cleared off the goal line in the closing minutes but lady luck was a against them and they now find themselves on the verge of a relegation battle.
Ammanford travel to Dinal Powys Saturday while the Reserves are away to Briton Ferry.
