Match Report - 23 Nov 2013, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Briton Ferry Llansawel
Ammanford AFC were left to wonder what could’ve been if it hadn’t been for a lack of discipline as they were defeated 2-0 by Britton Ferry at the Recreational Ground.
Despite an optimistic first half two red cards in five minutes left them battling for a draw, but were downed by two late goals.
Initially Ammanford were pressing with Ben Soal almost giving them a lead early on, but Soal then almost gifted the league leaders a goal with a poor back pass towards his keeper.
But, with quarter of an hour gone Nathan Jones squandered a big opportunity when he shot wide when one on one. Luke Squires almost set him up again, only for the Ferry defence to hold strong.
Two minutes later from the home side’s corner, the ball fell to Euros Griffiths who couldn’t guide it towards goal. With half time nearing closer, the undefeated visitors almost took the lead with a free kick which rattled the crossbar.
After the interval striker Nathan Jones almost set up his side, but his pass across the box was cleared away when it met the visitors defence.
With 60 minutes on the clock, Soal reacted to a tackle and was sent off for violent conduct. If that wasn’t a big enough blow for the home side, Alex Squires joined him after an off the ball collision five minutes later.
Ammanford were left to hold on for a draw with nine men and 25 minutes to play. Despite a battling display by their defence, Ammanford succumbed to the pressure late on as they conceded twice within two minutes.
The first was a shot by the left back from outside the box and the second was a tap in as Ammanfords lack of discipline cost them a game they could’ve won.
