Match Report - 02 Nov 2013, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Cardiff Met University
On an extremely windy day, Ammanford went down 3-1 to Cardiff Met at the Cyncoed Campus on Saturday afternoon.
Despite ending up eventual losers, Ammanford took the lead in the first half; going with the wind they took control of the half. In the seventh minute a ball into the box became a scramble for the ball, before Sam Wilson slammed it into the goal to give the visitors an early lead.
Cardiff Met had their own chances in the half, three to be exact. Two fell to the same player, who when well placed, shot high over the bar in a seemingly easy looking tap in. The players seemed furious.
The away side continued to press; despite not scoring another in the half Alex Squires did test the keeper with a long range shot.
After the interval, the game turned on its head. Ammanford failed to get out of their half much and it cost them.
Despite a good move from the kick off, which nearly saw them score, they failed to stop the pressure in the second half from the hosts.
Jamie Rano, in the Ammanford goal, was key for the away side as he denied the home side twice in two minutes. But, on 59 minutes he could do nothing about the equaliser; he saved the initial shot, but was helpless when a striker tapped in the rebound.
It was only 11 minutes later when they took the lead, a break down the left saw the left back fire a thunderous shot past Rano.
Soon after, the game was delayed for a few minutes due to the heavy hailstones and extreme wind. They soon went back on and to the homes fans’ add to the misery Cardiff scored another, Rano saved before another tap in.
