Match Report - 19 Apr 2003, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Taffs Well
12:00pm Wednesday 23rd April 2003
Ammanford 3 Taffs Well 0 Welsh league Div 2
AMMANFORD avenged a 1-0 defeat earlier in the season to Taffs Well as they recorded a comprehensive victory at Rice Road.
Ammanford soon dispelled any fears of a similar outcome as Gavin Porter struck early to calm home nerves.
Picking up the ball deep inside his own half in the tenth minute, Matthew Thomas beat two defenders before delivering a pinpoint cross on to the head of Porter who duly re-directed the ball wide of the keeper and into the back of the net.
Taffs Well then had a player sent off in a furious ten minute period before Ammanford deservedly added a second on the half hour when John Anderson cleverly turned inside, beating two defenders before crossing for Gavin Porter to head his second of the match - an identical finish to his first. After five minutes of the second half Porter turned provider for John Anderson, but with the keeper beaten the ball hit the cross bar and ricochet out.
It was all Ammanford now and after a number of good goal scoring opportunities had gone begging, the third and final goal soon arrived through the boot of Ian Jones. This was a great all round performance by a young Ammanford side that was without the services of the experienced quartet of John Garland, Malcolm Vaughan, Shaun Cresser and Terry Ward.
NEXT GAME: Away to Tredegar Town. The Seconds are away to Garden Village.
