Staying on top to get the points

AMMANFORD had to be on top of their game if they were to get anything out of this match against second-placed Grange Quins and they deservedly came away with the three points.
Captain Steven Evans again led by example, claiming the man-of-the-match award for the second successive game.
It didn't look too good for Ammanford in the early stages of the match as they fell a goal behind - a superb lob by visiting No.10 Nana Baam leaving keeper Craig Morris with no chance.
But the homesters responded with a great equaliser, Ian Jones slotting home after good work from John Anderson. But another defensive mix-up let in Baam once again who duly headed his team into the lead for the second time.
Quins then contrived to hand Ammanford a huge advantage when they had their centre-forward sent-off for a second bookable offence. This inspired Ammanford who began to assert their authority on the match by making real inroads into the visitors' defence.
Despite their dominance, 10-man Ammanford had keeper Morris to thank when he brilliantly pushed a goalbound shot on to the crossbar. Anderson then had a great chance to equalise from Ian Jones' cross, but his touch let him down and the ball slipped away for a goal-kick.
They were not to be denied, however, and Anderson soon made amends as he superbly volleyed in an equaliser.
It was now all Ammanford and with the Quins defence being run ragged, Lawrie Inman scored the crucial third goal. Ian Jones then had a chance to put the result beyond doubt but with only the keeper to beat, his attempted lob fell well short and was gratefully smothered by the man between the sticks.
