Match Report - 08 Feb 2003, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Taffs Well
12:00pm Saturday 15th February 2003
Taffs Well 1-0 Ammanford Welsh League Division 2
IT was always going to be difficult travelling to fifth-placed Taffs Well and although only going down by a single goal, Ammanford will be disappointed with defeat after conceding an 89th minute winner.
Ammanford had by far the best of the opening 45 minutes with John Anderson the chief tormentor going passed his marker at least half a dozen times, but his crosses were not turned into goals, although Tex Ward went closest with a header that had 'goal' written all over it but it was somehow scrambled clear.
Lawrie Inman stood out in midfield and won his fair share of ball, but as the game wore on it looked increasingly likely that a single goal would win it.
Ammanford were more than a little unlucky just 10 minutes into the second half when a mis-hit cross found John Garland whose shot took a terrible bounce but the home keeper David Morgan brought off a brilliant one handed save.
The game looked like ending 0-0 when Lawrie Inman took a nasty knock and was stretchered off with just minutes to go. But no sooner had A mmanford settled back down had they lost possession and sub Daniel Mays made them pay dearly with a well taken goal.
The seconds suffered the same fate as the senior side, losing 1-2 to Skewen in a match they deserved to win.
Ammanford are home to Newport YMCA on Saturday.
