Match Report - 23 Nov 2002, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Blaenrhondda
KO delayed after players stranded by M4 carnage
12:00pm Friday 29th November 2002
AMMANFORD were hoping for some continuity after last Saturday's 4-1 away win against Blaenrhondda and they got it - but in reverse fashion!
Things didn't go exactly to plan as the visitors' kit and some players became stranded on the motorway owing to the M4 closure.
Eventually, through the organisation of the home team, the match got underway with a late kick-off.
The first chance of the match fell to the visitors when keeper Craig Morris mis-kicked but he recovered quickly to save a certain goal.
With Rhondda pushing forward from the kick-off there was plenty of room behind the defence for Ammanford to exploit, but although they had at least five clear chances, they managed just the one goal, a superb effort from full-back Sean Cresser.
Craig Morris was then called into action to preserve Ammanford's clean sheet.
Despite Morrys Scott's height causing problems, the Rice Roaders failed to add to the score.
With a little more composure Ammanford could, and probably should, have been out of sight at the interval.
They proved to be costly misses as Ammanford caved in defensively in the second half with goals going in after 61, 62, 85 minutes and 87 minutes.
Although Ammanford had as much possession and scoring opportunities as the visitors, their defence was at sixes and sevens.
Next Saturday Ammanford are away to Grange Harlequins.
As you have read in the Guardian recently a serious case of vandalism in the stand area is causing the club serious problems and hope someone will come forward with information on 592407 in relation to the damage.
It is a private ground and no one is allowed inside the ground area without permission from the club.
They will prosecute anyone who is in the area without permission and will carry out a prosecution policy for the damage already caused.
The club is providing a sports facility for local people and to lose Welsh League status would be a disaster.
If you have any information on the above please contact any club member or the police
