Match Report - 29 Dec 2001, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Bridgend Town
A bridge over troubled waters
12:00pm Friday 4th January 2002
Ammanford 1 Bridgend Town 4
BRIDGEND a point behind Ammanford before this match made it a six pointer, but Bridgend ran out convincing winners in the end 1-4. With Brandon Walters scoring a superb hat-trick and Steve Hughes adding to the tally with Wayne Davies putting Ammanford 1-0 up. In a match littered with defensive mistakes, it could have been anybody's match but Ammanford at 3-1 down had a great chance to get back into the match with 10 minutes to go when Coldwell was brought down in the penalty area. But Matthew Bishop missed the stop kick - and a free kick award given just minutes later that desperately cleared by the visitors. Bridgend then sealed the match 1-4, a result that takes Ammanford down among the bottom three. They have a difficult match away to much improved Gwynfi next Saturday. There needs to be a marked improvement in the team's performance over the next few matches. It will not be easy with grounds getting heavier and some hard away and home matches. Next Saturday they are away to Gwynfi while the high-flying seconds are home to Briton Ferry.
Bridgend Town, who made a disastrous start to the season and languished at the bottom of the table for a time, seem to have put their worries behind them, and they cruised to a 4-1 defeat of Ammanford at Rice Road.
Brandon Walters bagged a hat-trick, with Steve Hughes getting their other goal. Wayne Davies scored for the West Walians.
