Match Report - 12 Jan 2002, Ammanford AFC Firsts drew with Bridgend Town
Rare away point for Ammanford
Bridgend Town 1 Ammanford 1
Ammanford playing in their first match under managers Neil Petterbridge and Wyn Jones gained only their second away point of the season, but it was a match they could also have won.
Ammanford started the game playing as if they were league champions not relegation candidates with some superb football in the opening 15 minutes.
They deservedly took the lead through a Mark Jones well taken goal set up by Aled Rees.
Disaster then struck when Bridgend's No.7 put in an unstoppable shot from outside the box for a superb goal and ten minutes later were lucky not to go 2-1 down when a disputed penalty was awarded to Bridgend but the shot went over the bar.
Bridgend had two chances to score in the opening of the second half but some great defending and bad finishing kept the score at 1-1. Ammanford with 30 minutes to go then took control of the game and had at least three superb chances to score with Malcolm Vaughan, Aled Rees and John Anderson all involved, but it was down to the Bridgends goalkeeper who pulled off two great saves, the second a finger tip fully stretched when Anderson and all others were convinced it was a goal.
