Match Report - 30 Sep 2006, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Newport YMCA
Newport YMCA 2 Ammanford 1 (after extra time) Welsh Cup round two Ammanford had a tough draw away to first division Newport YMCA who finished in seventh place in last season's Division One.
They had much the better of the opening exchanges and deservedly went one up in the tenth minute when centre forward Lewis Sommers made no mistake from close range.
Ammanford scored a well taken goal in the 27th minute when a pinpoint free kick by Liam Preece saw Ammanford's defender Paul Buckingham the quickest to react and put the ball into the net from close range.
In the 72nd minute they were awarded a penalty after Dean Jenkins was held back around the ankles after beating the keeper with an open goal in the offering.
Liam Preece took the spot kick and although his shot was well placed just inches inside the foot of the post, keeper Phillips pulled off a superb save.
They then created another match winning situation when another free kick for Ammanford saw keeper Phillips pull off a tremendous save onto the crossbar and over for a corner when a Buckingham header looked a certain goal.
In extra time YMCA managed the goal to take them into round three from Daniel Cueto after ten minutes.
