Match Report - 14 Apr 2007, Ammanford AFC Firsts drew with Bettws
Bettws - strong contenders for promotion in third place - would obviously give Ammanford a very competitive match as the home team also took their ground record when they beat them 1-2 during their last league match.
Ammanford started disastrously and, although having much the better of the play, conceded a goal in the fifth minute when the visitors scored through Richard Reddy after some inept defending again, conceding a goal from inside the six-yard box.
Ammanford responded magnificently and eventually conceded an own goal. They should have gone 2-1 up when the visitors' keeper was booked and a free kick awarded to Ammanford five yards from goal.
But the ball was eventually scrambled clear on the goal line after Ammanford's first effort hadn't been cleared.
Ammanford deservedly went 2-1 up in the 30th minute with a superb Steffan Hughes effort from 20 yards that gave the keeper no chance.
A superb cross from an Ammanford free kick went agonisingly over for a goal kick when any touch could have scored.
Bettws, as their league position shows, hung on against an Ammanford side that was beginning to take control and pulled the deficit back to 2-2 in the 55th minute.
Reddy was the scorer again. Although Ammanford were presenting Betws with problems at the back, they continued to defend superbly allowing the home team just one clear cut chance in the 80th minute when Luke Fayres hit a first time volley that went inches wide. Ammanford could have taken all three points, but Betws also put in a 90 minute performance in the heat.
l On Saturday, Ammanford are away to Troedyrhiw.
