Match Report - 10 Mar 2007, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Merthyr Saints
Ammanford started strongly and created a great chance in the opening quarter when Paul Jones sent Liam Preece through who turned inside to create space but his shot went just wide.
Preece was involved in Ammanford's next goal attempt when he sent Steffan Hughes through but although he managed to draw the keeper out of position he shot wide.
Keeper Walton pulled off a superb save and minutes before halftime Saints squandered a great open goal chance.
Five minutes into the second half Dean Jenkins caused panic before his shot was eventually scrambled clear. A Luke Frayers header was put wide before Saints replied with a penalty attempt that was saved by keeper Walton.
The Saints were reduced to ten men with a sending-off before the same fate came to Ammanford when keeper Walton pulled off a fine save but was outside his penalty area; Saints duly obliged and went 2-0 up.
The play was end to end and Ammanford deservedly scored to keep in the game but time ran out.
l On Saturday, the firsts are home to Caerau Ely. The Reserves had another great win 3-0 at home to Ystradgynlais.
