Match Report - 02 Dec 2006, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Cardiff Corinthians
Ammanford AFC 2 Cardiff Corries 1 Macwhirter Welsh League Division 2 AMMANFORD knew they would have to put in a five star display to get anything out of this encounter against high flying Cardiff Corries.
The match could have been lost in the opening 15 minutes but for some bad finishing and superb goal keeping by Ammanford's Richard Walton.
Ammanford came alive in the 35th minute when a Paul Jones free kick presented Buckingham with an easy chance inside the box but he failed to make contact.
Ammanford scored a superb goal from Richard Lewis when he swerved the ball from fully 25 yards around a defender who had unsighted the keeper.
Just before half-time a terrible defensive lapse let in Gareth Taylor for a simple tap-in.
Conditions were becoming treacherous as the match progressed but Ammanford competed in all departments. Richard Lewis saw a great shot scrambled off the goal line and Luke Fayres just failed to score in a 50-50 dash for a loose ball with only the keeper to beat.
A Paul Jones free kick was headed against the crossbar from Luke Fayres and Paul Jones then saw his shot from an acute angle saved brilliantly, but Ammanford were not to be denied when Richard Lewis with a great individual effort set up Luke Fayres who took the cross and gave the keeper no chance.
l Ammanford are home again next week to First Division Neath's reserve team and are drawn away to Newport YMCA in the Reserve Cup.
