Match Report - 18 Nov 2006, Ammanford AFC Firsts drew with Merthyr Saints
Ammanford 2 Merthyr Saints 2 Macwhirter Welsh League Division 2 AMMANFORD scored their quickest goal of the season when Luke Fayres put Dean Jenkins through with a brilliant through ball and with just the keeper to beat he made no mistake.
Just seven minutes later the visitors equalised but Ammanford nearly went 2-1 up when Nathan McNeil went forward from defence and put in a great shot that was blocked on the line.
Although the visitors were forced to defend desperately they went 2-1 up somehow when again slack defence saw keeper Richard Walton pull off a brilliant save but from the rebound Mazu Silva put the ball into goal from close range.
Ammanford looked like scoring on a couple of occasions but it was defender Nathan McNeil who scored with a stunning left foot shot from 18 yards that gave keeper Pendry no chance.
Just before half time it took a tremendous save from keeper Walton when Saints went clear and he saved a certain goal.
By half time both teams had settled down, but Ammanford did miss chances On the evidence of the first half it began to look as if one of the teams would run out 6-4 winners but the second half was easily contested both in possession and territorially.
Another two great saves from keeper Walton and Pendry in the visitors goal made sure the result staged at 2-2 each.
The introduction of young Jamie Murray added some pace to a tiring team but it was not to be a although Ammanford were disappointed.
Next Saturday, Ammanford are away to Caerau Ely and the reserves are home to Port Talbot, kick off 2pm.
