Match Report - 28 Oct 2006, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Garw Athletic
Garw 3 Ammanford 2 MacWhirter Welsh League Division 2 Ammanford nearly pulled off a shock result at Garw when they came back from 3-0 down with only 20 minutes remaining to 3-2 but try as they would, playing with three to four players upfront, failed at the last hurdle.
Ammanford started much the stronger and for the opening 20 minutes had Garw defending desperately but were hit by a goal from close range by centre forward Wattleworte against the run of play.
Within five minutes Garw hit the crossbar before scoring again from a penalty by Dave Thomas.
Ammanford managed to put in two great attacks but both ended up as corners.
The second half saw Garw step up their game and although Ammanford were getting more into the game, Garw scored again through Thomas, from a corner.
But Ammanford pulled out all the stops and deservedly pulled a goal back when Dean Jenkins was quickest to react and scored from close range.
They then put Garw under tremendous pressure and had them defending deep in their own half.
A deep cross wide on the right went over the home keeper and was deflected into Garw's own goal.
Ammanford threw everything into attack leaving keeper Richard Walton to conjure up some superb saves.
But it was not to be.
l The Firsts have no game on Saturday but are away to Grange Harlequins on November 11.
The Reserves had a great 2-1 win home to first division Maesteg and are home again next Saturday to Seven Sisters, kick off 2pm. All starting times will now be 2pm
