Match Report - 26 Aug 2006, Ammanford AFC Firsts drew with Briton Ferry
Briton Ferry 2 Ammanford 2 Macwhirter Welsh League Division 2 AMMANFORD started confidently against a Ferry side that had won three of their opening matches.
Ammanford had Nathan McNeil to thank for creating their first chance when he broke clear from deep inside his own half he took the ball wide from the right and crossed for Luke Fayres who hit the cross bar with his effort.
But Ammanford's failure to defend inside their six yard box saw them concede an easy goal for the Ferry.
The half ended with a Paul Jones shot from long range that was easily saved.
Ammanford were on equal term just three minutes into the second half when a long throw in by Nathan McNeil caused panic in the Ferry six yard box and after failing to clear Luke Fayres made no mistake to put Ammanford level.
Ammanford then put pressure on the home defence when a three men move forced a desperate defence to clear at the expense of a corner.
But Ferry replied with an attacking move that had Ammanford defending desperately and Walton in goal pulled off two superb point blank saves that were heading for goal.
After being put under pressure in the 75m Ferry went 2-1 up again failing to defend inside the six yard box, with time running out Ammanford keeper Richard Walton was sent off.
Youngster Paul Murray claimed the keeper jersey and although he didn't have much time, his presence gave the defence confidence.
Ammanford then deservedly drew level on 80 minutes with that man Luke Fayres scoring his second for a deserved point from their three away matches.
On Saturday, the Firsts are away to Treherin and the reserves are home Pontardawe in the club's first League match of the season at home at the Recreation ground.
