Match Report - 11 Sep 2004, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Goytre United
AMMANFORD were handed a lesson by division one promotion favourites Goytre United on Saturday as they went crashing out of the Welsh Cup.
It was always going to be a difficult day for the Rice Roaders, but their task was made near-impossible when last-minute withdrawals and player unavailability forced managers Wyn James and Neil Rees into changes.
But the cup gives players and teams the opportunity to evaluate their performance and ability - it turned out to be a totally inept performance from the Ammanford team though.
The gap between the two sides proved to be huge with Goytre superb in all areas. Amazingly, when considering the final score, it could even have been worse for Ammanford.
But there is a lot of character in the camp and they will have to put this result behind them to make progress in the league and the League Cup.
It took Goytre just five minutes to open the scoring and they were two up within ten minutes when Ian Jones escaped the Ammanford off-side trap.
A penalty followed and Ammanford leaked a fourth before half-time.
The home side totally collapsed after the interval, conceding a remarkable three goals in the first five minutes of the half.
Ian Jones was in the thick of the action and the ex-Ammanford player bagged an amazing six goals before the end.
Ammanford will be looking to put the massive disappointment behind them when they host Llan Wern at Rice Road in the league on Saturday (ko 3pm).
