Match Report - 27 Nov 2004, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to ENTO Aberaman Athletic
AMMANFORD let slip a two-goal lead as they crashed at home to bottom-of-the-table Aberaman.
Ammanford deservedly went 2-0 up within the first ten minutes.
They opened the scoring when a Jamie Harris corner found Mark Smolka inside the six-yard box and his effort gave visiting keeper Carl Mounty no chance.
Ammanford doubled their advantage just a minute later when Mathew Thomas turned defence into attack with a run that took him clear into space on the left.
His cross on the run was met by Paul Hughes, who got a touch with a header for Tristan Lewis to score.
Ammanford should have been out of sight by half-time but they wasted numerous chances and were also denied what looked to be a blatant penalty.
Somehow, much against the run of play, Aberaman pulled a goal back through Mathew Saunders to reduce the deficit before the interval.
The visitors came out in the second half fired up and won a penalty when Ammanford handled inside the box.
Home keeper Craig Morris superbly saved the first effort, diving full length to his left, but the linesman flagged that he was off his line and the spot kick was retaken.
Amazingly, the second effort was also stopped by the heroic Morris, this time diving to his right to keep the penalty out.
This, however, seemed to inspire Aberaman more than Ammanford and they soon they equalised through David Blackstock, who was put in a goal scoring position by man-of-the-match Saunders.
A terrible day for Ammanford was compounded when the visitors broke away to score the winning goal.
This was a game that Ammanford really should have won comfortably, but they are now left looking nervously over their shoulders with the gap between them and bottom club Aberaman narrowed with this bad result.
On Saturday Ammanford are away to Caldicot and the reserves are home to Briton Ferry.
