Match Report - 06 Nov 2004, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Pontyclun
Ammanford turn the corner
AMMANFORD ground out a win to turn around their recent poor run, writes Huw Waghorn.
The visitors had the better of the game in the opening exchanges and were on top for the first 20 minutes.
Ammanford came back into it and were the better side as the half wore on.
They were rewarded when striker Nathan Jones produced an excellent finish from a tight angle to put his side ahead at half-time.
Ammanford started the second period strongly and created a few good openings, including a difficult Paul Hughes header that went over the bar.
Just as Pontyclun were beginning to put the home side under pressure, Ammanford broke away and Hughes made amends for his earlier miss with a superb finish.
A late consolation could not put a dampener on Ammanford's spirits.
Ammanford Town chairman Steve Davies said: "We had to dig out a result in the end but it was certainly well deserved.
"We've lost a couple of games recently so this suggests that we are now turning the corner.
