Match Report - 05 Nov 2005, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Porthcawl Town
A Cerison Davies' winner condemned Porthcawl to defeat at Ammanford,
In atrocious conditions it was a credit to both teams and officials that this match was played to such a high standard.
The pitch was in excellent condition, but understandably cut up in the last 30 minutes.
After chances going begging at both ends, Ammanford took the lead just two minutes from half-time when Cerison Davies put in a tremendous free kick ten yards outside the penalty area that gave the keeper no chance.
Ammanford were determined not to concede this slender lead, and could also have scored when Matthew Fisher put in a great cross after beating two defenders, but Peter shot just wide.
When danger threatened Ammanford's goal Liam Preece held the defence together in his role as sweeper, but it took a superb save from keeper Robert Thomas when it looked as if the visitors would score. At the other end Gavin Porter was a threat every time he had the ball.
The management are hoping to strengthen the squad in the next few days, and hope the form continues next Saturday when they are home to Caerau Ely, kick-off 2pm.
The reserves did not have a match Saturday but are away to Seven Sisters next Saturday, kick-off 2pm. The reserves are beginning to show great promise with their recent results and hope to continue with most of the team just teenagers.
