Match Report - 27 Aug 2005, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Troedyrhiw
Troedyrhiw 3 Ammanford 1
Ammanford were forced to make four changes from the starting line-up on Wednesday, with Gareth Jones, Nicky Dawson, Liam Preece and Emyr Jones all unavailable for various reasons.
As a result, Robert Griffiths, Mathew Fisher, Jason Cousins and Jonathan Thomas were called in.
Ammanford very nearly went a goal up in the 15th minute when Mathew Fisher went through the complete defence and, with only the keeper to beat, shot just wide.
Next Troedyrhiw missed a similar chance to score with Rickie Collins shooting wide, but went 1-0 up when No.10 Richard Parker headed into goal from a corner unchallenged.
Ammanford pulled a goal back in the 38th minute. When forced on the defence, they failed to clear a corner with a miss hit clearance going on the edge of the box for No.3 Nathan McNeill to hit a first-time volley, giving the keeper no chance.
Ammanford were well into the match, more than holding their own, when tragedy struck in the 60th minute. Ammanford conceded a free kick on the edge of the box and No.3 Brent Hewitt hit the free kick wide of the wall into the net.
Try as Ammanford would they were unable to pull back the deficit. They went a further goal down with just 10 minutes left when they conceded from a corner.
It was a disappointing result, to say the least. Ammanford could at least have retrieved a point from the encounter. There is no match next Saturday as Wales are playing England.
Ammanford are away to Maesteg in the Welsh Cup on September 10, while the reserves start their season at home to Caldicot in the Harris Printers Shield, round one.
