Match Report - 07 Apr 2007, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Pontyclun
Ammanford deservedly won all three points against Pontyclun who have always forced some disappointing results over the years.
Ammanford's winning margin should have been much greater, but some desperate defence and shots off target with only the keeper to beat made the result look much closer.
Ammanford had a great chance after 15 minutes, from a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and straight on goal, but Liam Preece's shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper at the expense of a corner.
Ammanford deservedly scored in the 20th minute after great work by Dean Jenkins and Richard Jones ended with Luke Fayres scoring a quality goal.
Some sloppy defence which let the ball bounce inside the penalty area saw Pontyclun draw level.
However, just two minutes later Ammanford increased their lead when Luke Fayres created an opening for Dean Jenkins, a half-chance that he turned into a goal.
Ammanford completely dominated the play up to halftime and should have increased their lead.
Five minutes into the second half they went 1-3 up with Dean Jenkins again the scorer.
Pontyclun replied with a shot that came off Ammanford's crossbar and back into play. Ammanford then conceded a penalty in the 80th minute but held on to their goal advantage.
Special praise goes to the two Ammanford youngsters James Murray and Cerith Williams, who put in top performances with Williams edging the man of the match award.
l Next weekend they are home to Betws, kick off 2.30pm. The reserves had a great 8-1 home win against Afan Lido
