Match Report - 09 Dec 2006, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Bridgend Town
Ammanford 2 Bridgend Town 4 Shamrock Travel League Cup Round Three Ammanford eventually went down to first division Bridgend Town, in a match they could probably have won, but some terrible defending made the Bridgend win much easier.
Ammanford went close after ten minutes when a Nathan McNeill cross was headed to the far post by Paul Buckingham, but Paul Jones put it over the crossbar from close range.
Ammanford were not to be denied and McNeill was again involved with a tremendous through-ball to Richard Lewis who pulled his pass across for Luke Fayres to score.
Lewis and Jenkins were beginning to find gaps in the visitors' defence and looked the more likely to score again, but a high ball into the penalty area saw some bad defending and let in the visitor No 10 in for a goal.
Five minutes later they scored again, more through bad defending then creating chances, and went 2-1 down.
They were in the game right up to half-time and just failed to pull a goal back, but three minutes into the second half Luke Fayres scored when set up by Dean Jenkins but the visitors scored again in the 65th minute and were then awarded a dubious penalty.
It was overall a good Ammanford display but they didn't play their usual fluent football with some players tiring towards the end.
l Next Saturday Ammanford are home again to Pontyclun in the league. The Reserves lost 4-2 at Garden Village and are away to Ystradgynlais this Saturday.
