Match Report - 10 May 2008, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Treharris Athletic

Ammanford fielded a number of changes for this important match with Treharris.

Ammanford started strongly from the kick off, when James Murray was sent through on the right, he beat his marker and crossed into the six-yard box where the ball was eventually cleared.

It soon took a superb save from Ammanford keeper Richard Walton on 20 minutes to keep the scores levels and he pulled off another superb one-on-one save minutes later, before Treharris eventually broke the Ammanford defence to score on 30 minutes.

Ammanford replied just a minute later when a Sean Fender shot that saw the home keeper pull of a fine save.

Walton in goal was at his best just two minutes into the second half with another fine save, before Town nearly equalised when a Gruf Harrison corner was headed just wide at the near post.

Treharris, who had much the better of the first half. were put under pressure as the match progressed but still managed to score on 65 and 70 minutes.

Ammanford pulled a goal back and youngster Ben Soze had a great effort hit the cross bar.

The Ammanford team, with 21-year-old Richard Walton the oldest player for Ammanford, was one of the youngester ever at this eleven.

At least seven of the players would have qualified for youth football, and looks hopeful for the long term future for Ammanford.

Treharris avoided relegation on the back of a 3-1 home win over Ammanford , who had Anthony Douglas on target.
