Match Report - 26 Apr 2008, Ammanford AFC Firsts drew with Caerau (Ely)
Caerau Ely 6 Ammanford 6 Macwhirter Welsh League Division 2 Four goals in the last ten minutes saw Ammanford draw 6-6 in a superb match at Caerau Ely on Saturday.
With Ammanford 5-3 up and with time running out, goals went in in the 80th, 87th, 88th and 89th minutes in an amazing climax to the game.
To make matters even more unbelievable, Caerau Ely's comeback came despite the fact they played the whole of the second half with ten men after their goal keeper was sent off.
Ammanford were 2-0 after 15 minutes, with Luke Fayres scoring the first with a brilliant lob before Dean Jenkins scored from an acute angle at the far post.
Ammanford were a little unlucky when a third goal attempt saw the ball swerve and hit the post.
Ely responded with a long ball upfield that resulted in a well taken goal and sandwiched between Ammanford's second and Ely's first was an injury to Cerith Williams who was substituted by Mathew Jones.
Ely made the most of the situation before they could reorganise and levelled the score on 32 minutes.
The match then turned into a nasty confrontation on 44 minutes when Ammanford won a penalty and the home keeper was red carded for the foul.
The referee eventually sorted the problem out with a half time lecture.
Ely, to their credit pulled level just two minutes into the second half, but Ammanford gained the lead again in 55 minutes when Rhys Fisher broke from halfway for a well taken goal. Dean Jenkins put the fifth in the net before Richard Walton pulled off a superb save from a long range shot.
The home team had their second choice keeper to thank on 65 minutes, when Jenkins went through with a one on one.
And a superb 30 yarder and an equaliser minutes later pulled it around for Ely at 5-5.
With just two minutes to go Dean Jenkins scored his hat-trick to put Ammanford 6-5 up before Ely equalised with the last kick of the game.
Ammanford have their last home game of the season, against Pontyclun on Saturday and are away on Bank Holiday Monday.
The reserves are away to Garden Village tomorrow.
