Match Report - 12 Apr 2008, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Cwmbran Celtic
Ammanford had a smaller squad to select from when Scott Evans was unavailable with a broken ankle following the midweek victory at West End, but it meant a chance for youngster Steffan Cook to come back into the team.
Ammanford applied early pressure through Paul Jones, who forced the visitors keeper into two good saves, the second from fully 30 yards.
They had their first reward on 20 minutes when David Rhodes intercepted an attack and played a brilliant 30 yard through ball to Liam Preece, who crossed into the penalty area.
The ball was headed in by Luke Fayres, who won the ball just inside the visitors penalty area, where the keeper had come out for the challenge.
Ammanford increased their lead on 40minutes when Dean Jenkins won the ball, took it to the line and crossed for Shaun Fender who finished it off with a well taken goal.
A 40 yard break by Liam Preece nearly set up a third but Ammanford were grateful to go in at the break 2-0 up.
They had some good fortune in the second half with the visitors beating the Ammanford offside trap and on at least three occasions looked to have gone clear but some fine defending from the Ammanford denied the chances with Steff Cooke, Rhodri Jones and Cerith Williams coming to the rescue.
Ammanford were not without their chances either and Paul Jones had another long range 30 yard free kick, saved brilliantly by the visitors goal keeper.
Next Saturday, the Ammanford firsts are away to Pontyclun.
Meanwhile, the seconds are away to Neath, Tuesday, April 15; home to Llansawel, Thursday, April 17 and home to Briton Ferry on April 19.
