Match Report - 05 Apr 2008, Ammanford AFC Firsts drew with Garden Village
There was a minutes silence before this encounter for Mrs Nan Owen was passed away earlier this week.
Garden Village came into this match after an impressive run of results that had them at fourth place in the league adding the local derby mixture it was always going to be a tight match.
Village made their intentions clear on ten minutes when Ammanford were caught at appealing for offside but play was waved on, resulting in the shot hitting a post, minutes later it took a fine Richard Walter save to keep the scores level.
It looked like a certain goal for the visitors on 20 minutes when a snap shot swerved wildly, but luckily for Ammanford the ball hit the foot of the post and back into play.
Ammanford's first real effect on goal was a brilliant Sean Fender effort but the danger was eventually cleared.
Then a brilliant individually taken goal by Luke Fayres drew the keeper off his line and he lobbed the ball into an empty net from an acute angle.
Ammanford started the second half as they finished the first with the young team growing more confident as the match progressed and James Murray was a little unlucky not to score from Dean Jenkins' pass but the keeper somehow managed to deflect the shot clear.
Garden Village pulled a goal back when a free kick wide on the right was not cleared and centre half David Rummer scored from the close range. It was Ammanford who then went close to increasing their lead when Dean Jenkins set up a chance for Mathew Jones to give himself a shot at goal but the keeper saved brilliantly to deny a goal.
Ammanford had the final chance of the match with a Liam Preece free kick that was easily saved. Overall a great result on the back of their 0-1 win against Briton Ferry.
They are away to West End tonight, Wednesday, and home to Cwmbran Celtic Saturday.
The reserves play Cwmaman away on Tuesday and are away to Neath on Tuesday, April 18. The club wish to acknowledge the kind donation from Councillor Huw Evans to the development of football at Ammanford and Saturdays match and ball sponsors.
