Match Report - 29 Mar 2008, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Grange Harlequins

AMMANFORD returned from their travels with a superb victory over Grange Harlequins on Saturday.

Ammanford started positively against mid table Grange Harlequins and although they had the ball in the net on 10 minutes, it was disallowed for an earlier infringement.

Minutes later it took a Richard Walton save to keep the score 0-0.

The visitors were caught out on 20 minutes when appealing for off side that the referee waved play on but the chance was wasted by the home team with a shot wide of goal.

Ammanford began to take more control as the match progressed and a Dean Jenkins and Matthew Fisher both went close.

Fisher saw his shot from an acute angle block saved at the near post.

After putting Quins under constant pressure, Ammanford grabbed the initiaitive just a minute from half-time when they forced a goal after David Rhodes first effort was saved.

The loose ball was pounced on by Sean Fender, who took his chance superbly from an acute angle.

Dean Jenkins nearly increased their lead in the 50th minute when he won a free kick at the far post but just failed to direct it at goal.

A turn and shot minutes later saw Fisher's effort beat the keeper, but hit the cross bar and fly out of play.

Jenkins and Fisher were creating all sorts of problems for the home defence.

Jenkins appeared to have scored a superb effort after he latched onto a long ball direct keeper and volleyed hopme as he fell, but the officials ruled the strike out for offside.

A sharp intervention by Walton cleared a Quins attackr, but Ammanford deservedly went 2-0 up on 70th minute when Fisher was fouled inside the box and Paul Jones scored from the spot kick.

Jones doubled his tally when he drilled home a superb 35-yard free kick to see Ammanford earned a deserved 0-3 win.

The victory was even sweeter as it came without the services of the unavailable Luke Fayres.

Ammanford visit Briton Ferry tonight (Wednesday) and host Garden Village at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.
