Match Report - 13 Oct 2007, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Cardiff Corinthians
Cardiff Corries 2, Ammanford 1 MacWhirter Welsh League Division Two Ammanford, desperate for a win, were again on the losing side despite having 75% of possession and territorial advantage.
They started disastrously again and conceded after just three minutes.
Poor marking allowed the Corries an early strike and although keeper Richard Walter saved the first effort superbly, the loose ball was not cleared and the Corries took advantage of an easy tap in.
Ammanford, through Dean Jenkins, nearly equalised soon after but a scramble at the back saw the ball cleared for a corner.
Ammanford had Corries defending desperately in the opening ten minutes of the second half and the home side conceded two free kicks in succession on the edge of the box.
On the 60th minute, a brilliant piece of football involving Jenkins and Lewis saw the latter's first-time volley somehow saved by the keeper on the line.
It was the turning point in the match, if Ammanford had scored they would have looked comfortably in charge but such is their luck lately it was not to be.
In the next ten minutes Ammanford had a great chance to equalise but the opportunity again went wide.
Corries, much against the run of play, then scored after another defensive lapse.
Nathan McNeil pulled one back for Ammanford before time ran out.
This was a 90-minute performance that saw Ammanford fully deserve three points thanks to the quality of their football, but nevertheless they returned west empty-handed.
Town have a chance to put things right on Saturday when they entertain top team Uwic at the Rec, kick off 2.30pm.
