Newcastle Emlyn welcomed local rivals Ammanford Town to Parc Emlyn in front of a large crowd Wednesday Evening.
The game started very brightly with both teams showing good pace and quality on the ball. Ammanford enjoyed most of the possession throughout the first half, with James Evans going close on two occasions, only to be stopped by the talented Emlyn keeper Cutlan.
Emlyn broke the deadlock on 32 minutes with a long goal kick by Emlyn keeper which fell to the on-rushing Adam Raymond, who glided the ball past the static Fayers in defence to slot the ball past Ammanford keeper Lloyd.
Emlyn appeared to keep Ammanford at bay, with the two impressive midfielders Squires and Maynard working tireless in midfield.
The second half had plenty of action with Ammanford’s, Richard Lewis delivering some quality crosses, but overall kept fairly quiet by the ever growing in confidence Kieran Davies.
Ammanford equalised on 54 minutes with a well-delivered corner was met by James Evans who glanced the ball in the far corner.
Ammanford now had urge to go looking for the winner which appeared to come on 64 minutes when Emlyn centre half Jody Thomas appeared to bring down Lewis in the box. Up stepped Lewis to thunder the penalty kick past Cutlan.
Emlyn made a tactical change with Vincent replacing the workhorse Sam Thomas. Vinnie’s pace soon had a bearing on how the game was going to pan out. Emlyn equalised on 69 minutes with Raymond crossing for the ever-reliable Anthony Owens to glance past Lloyd in the Ammanford goal.
Emlyn gained confidence from this and in the 78th minute, substitute Vincent snatched the winner with a far post tap in.
Emlyn are delighted with this result as they prepare for Caerleon on Saturday and Ammanford will be kicking themselves for a host of missed chances.
