Match Report - 21 Mar 2009, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Cwmbran Celtic
Ammanford stunned promotion candidates Cwmbran Celtic on Saturday and extended their winning run to three games.
The visitors piled on the early pressure and Celtic were forced to scramble the ball clear after it had hit a post.
Luke Fayres then had a great chance but his header from a Matthew Jones cross went just wide.
Fayres had another chance soon after, this time after great work by Geraint Jones, but his shot hit a post.
Richard Lewis then gave Ammanford a deserved lead when he scored an opportunist goal but within minutes Celtic had drawn level.
Both teams then hit the woodwork and Fayres was booked for appealing for a penalty.
The hosts started the second half strongly and a shot from their centre-forward flew inches over the bar.
Celtic’s ’keeper then made two terrific saves before great work from Rhys Fisher resulted in Matthew Jones heading Ammanford in front.
Ammanford then hit the woodwork for the fourth time before Fayres finally got on the scoresheet with a deserved goal.
Lewis completed the scoring with his second to secure a superb victory for Ammanford.
This was Ammanford’s best performance of the season and they now have a weekend off due to internationals.
They are back in action on April 4 when Caerau Ely visit.
