Match Report - 07 Mar 2009, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Treharris Athletic
AMMANFORD’s superb run of form continued on Saturday as they wrapped up another good victory, this time over relegation-threatened Treharris.
Luke Fayres and Matthew Jones had chances to open the scoring but both saw their efforts cleared.
But the wait for the opener didn’t last too much longer as Paul Jones stepped up to score from a free-kick after Dean Jenkins was brought down while in on goal, which led to a visiting defender getting a red card.
Although Ammanford were now in total control, Treharris did offer the odd threat as the match got more competitive.
But to the relief of the home supporters, the hosts finally increased their lead through Fayres.
They had another two goals disallowed and were reduced to ten men when goal-scorer Jones was given his marching orders.
In the end, there was no doubting Ammanford’s performance and quality of play.
They could easily have won by a bigger margin but credit must go to Treharris for the battling qualities they showed.
Ammanford are home again on Saturday when they face Grange Harlequins (2.30pm).
