Match Report - 24 Jan 2009, Ammanford AFC Firsts beat Llangeinor
Ammanford continued their run of recent good form to beat Llangeinor and charge further up the table.
The hosts faced a team who beat them 2-0 earlier in the season and were four points ahead going into the game.
They caught the visitors out in the first three minutes when Gethin Jones got into a great position to score when he broke clear on the left and drew the goalkeeper, but the ball went agonisingly across the goal.
A Luke Fayres effort was kept out by a quality save before Ammanford turned their dominance into a goal. It was created by Richard Lewis, who beat three defenders before putting a great low cross into the six yard box, where Fayres made no mistake.
Ammanford continued to attack up until half time but had full back Anthony Douglas to thank for keeping Llangeinor scoreless just five minutes into the second half.
The visitors then broke clear into the Ammanford penalty area with just ’keeper Walton between the attacker and goal, but Douglas came from nowhere to put in a tremendous tackle to clear the danger without conceding a foul.
It looked as if Richard Lewis had scored after sixty minutes but a linesman had flagged for an earlier infringement.
A Fayres effort was cleared before new signing Luke Harris headed in a pin-point Paul Jones free kick to give the home side a 2-0 lead.
Ammanford had further chances that were not taken and Llangeinor also had two chances going into the last quarter, but Ammanford were more than pleased to keep a clean sheet to add to their recent form which has resulted in four wins and two draws in their last six matches.
On Saturday Ammanford are away to Tredegar Town.
Ammanford Reserves pulled off a fine 1-0 win away to Llwydcoed and are home to Cwmaman Utd on Saturday.
