Match Report - 18 Oct 2008, Ammanford AFC Firsts lost to Penrhiwchiber
Penriwceiber 6 Ammanford 1 Macwhirter Welsh League Division 2 Ammanford started strongly from the kick-off and played probably the best football they have to date, with Luke Fayres and Robert Thomas both having shots at goal saved.
Matthew Jones had a great chance at 20 minutes when he came in late unmarked at the far post, but failed by inches to get a touch with the keeper rooted on the near post.
A Ben Sole snap-shot deserved better than a corner, but at 30minutes it took a great save by keeper Walton in Ceiber’s first attack of note.
Against the run of play there was a mix-up in Ammanford’s defence and the referee awarded an indirect free kick on the edge of the six-yard box following a back pass to the keeper.
The homesters scored from the set-piece.
Ammanford continued to play some attractive football up to the half-time whistle, but with nothing to show for their first half dominance.
Just three minutes into the second half keeper Walton was sent off for a last defender challenge on the edge of the box. Paul Jones came off the bench to done the keepers jersey and his first touch was to collect the ball from his goal from the free kick.
Minute later Luke Fayres pulled a goal back for Ammanford with a superb effort to give Ammanford some hope, but the burden of playing with ten men soon told and gave Ceiber the chance to dominate the game and score more goals in a convincing win.
The score was not the annihilation it appeared, with Ammanford having equal territorial advantage and possession over 90 minutes but failing to score when they were on top.
Saturday, Ammanford are home to UWIC, kick-off 2.30pm.
There was however some joy to celebrate with the reserves playing their league cup match against Pontyclun and deservedly winning 3-0 thanks to some great football.
The reserves are away to Briton Ferry next Saturday
